Avira built its reputation on a light footprint and a no-nonsense free antivirus, and both survive under Gen Digital ownership (yes, the same company as Norton, Avast, and AVG). The free plan includes the full scanner, a software updater, and a limited VPN. Prime bundles everything including an unlimited VPN at a reasonable first-year price. The knock-offs are frequent upsell pop-ups in the free version, and renewal prices that climb like everyone else’s.
