G Data Total Security renews below its first-year price ($49.95 in year one, $34.95from year two). That is how the vendor’s own page prints it, with the renewal discount tied to automatic renewal; we show it as read.

TotalAV and F-Secure Total print the same amount for year one and the years after, so the increase is 0%.

Free products with no subscription (Microsoft Defender) have nothing to renew and are shown for completeness.

Vendors that do not publish a renewal price

Checked on September 8, 2026. For these vendors we read the product page, the checkout and the support pages and found a first-year price but no renewal amount; the pages say the subscription renews at the price in force at that time. They are in the table and outside the average.

For these products a second reader compared the registration with the saved copy of the vendor page and rejected it. Nothing from that reading is shown. Where our catalogue holds an older price, it is listed here as a fallback with its own date, and it is a catalogue figure, not a measurement.

How to avoid paying it

The steps that keep year two a choice instead of a surprise are on their own page, so they are not repeated here: why did my antivirus renewal price double, and what to do about it. The cost calculator uses the same first-year and renewal prices as this table.

Month by month

Vendors that appear in more than one monthly snapshot, first-year price and renewal price side by side. The months before September 2026 were taken from our catalogue; from September 2026on, a row is what the vendor’s page printed on the day, with a saved copy. A change between those two kinds of month can therefore be a correction of our catalogue rather than a move by the vendor. A vendor that is missing in a month did not have both amounts read that month.

Three questions this index answers

How much do antivirus renewal prices rise after the first year?

On September 8, 2026 we read the pages of 19 antivirus and security vendors. 9 of them print a renewal price next to the first-year price, and across those 9 the second year costs 64.3% more on average, with a median of 58.9%. The widest gap is McAfee+, from $49.99 to $149.99 a year (+200%). The smallest is G Data Total Security, $49.95 in year one and $34.95 from year two (-30%). 5 vendors publish no renewal price at all and are left out of the average.

Which antivirus has the biggest renewal price increase?

McAfee+ ($49.99 to $149.99 a year, +200%), Norton 360 Deluxe ($49.99 to $124.99 a year, +150%), and Bitdefender Total Security ($59.99 to $109.99 a year, +83.3%) top the list, read from the vendors' own pages on September 8, 2026. The figures are the plan we track per vendor, in the currency the vendor bills in.

Which antivirus vendors do not publish a renewal price?

ESET HOME Security, Trend Micro Maximum Security, Aura, LifeLock, Webroot Essentials: on September 8, 2026 none of these 5 printed a renewal amount on the product page, the checkout or the support pages we read. They state that the subscription renews at the then-current price. Their first-year prices are known (ESET HOME Security $34.99, Trend Micro Maximum Security $74.95, Aura $144, LifeLock $124.99, Webroot Essentials $52.49), which is why they appear in the table but not in the average.

Sources, one per vendor

Each amount was read on the page linked here, on the date shown, and a copy of that page is kept in the repository under the evidence path. Two people read every registration unless marked otherwise. Vendor pages change without notice; on the day you read this, the vendor’s page wins.

How the index is built

For each vendor we open the product page and, where it differs, the page that states the renewal, in a US locale, and record the first-year price and the renewal price of one plan, in the vendor’s own currency. The increase is the renewal price over the first-year price, computed once when the model is built and never typed in. A vendor counts toward the average only when both amounts were printed; a vendor that prints no renewal amount is listed under “not published”.

A separate reader compares every registration with the saved copy of the page before it enters the model; a registration that fails that comparison is shown as not verified, with the older catalogue figure marked as a fallback. Amounts are re-read monthly, and every reading is kept, so the month-by-month table can only grow.

Three-year cost at the prices read: McAfee+ $349.97, Norton 360 Deluxe $299.97, Bitdefender Total Security $279.97 (the 6 others are in the JSON). The entry prices of the same vendors, per month, are in the Price Index; how a commission never changes the order is in how we rank.
