Norton wins on protection and on what happens next year, TotalAV wins only on the first bill. TotalAV Antivirus Pro is $1.58 a month, $19 for the first year, and scores 3.8. Norton 360 Deluxe is $4.17 a month, $49.99 for the first year, and scores 4.5, one of the highest here.
That $30.99 difference is a first year illusion. Both prices are promotional and both rise on renewal, but TotalAV is known for the steepest step up in this category, and its own description on this site says as much: it suits bargain hunters who set reminders.
Norton 360 Deluxe includes cloud backup, a password manager and a VPN without extra charge, and the higher tier with LifeLock identity protection is $8.33 a month, $99.99 for the first year, if that matters to you. The honest downside of TotalAV is the renewal shock and the aggressive upselling inside the product.
The honest downside of Norton is that it installs a lot of software you may not want, and uninstalling it cleanly is more work than it should be. You want the lowest possible first bill and you will genuinely cancel before renewal: TotalAV. Everyone else: Norton.
