Bitdefender has spent years at the top of the independent lab charts. It was in the AV-Comparatives consumer rounds of 2026 as well; that rating is on the lab’s own page, linked below. Does Bitdefender still support Windows 10 after October 2026?
No. Bitdefender states that it will provide antimalware support for Windows 10 until October 14, 2026. That matters more than it sounds, because Microsoft extended its consumer Extended Security Updates programme to October 2027, so a lot of people are deliberately staying on Windows 10 while their antivirus stops first. If you are one of them, you have until that date to move to Windows 11 or to a vendor that still covers Windows 10. Checked on the Bitdefender support pages, August 2026.
Does Bitdefender still work on Windows 7 or 8.1?
Until January 14, 2027. Bitdefender states that it will provide antimalware support for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 until that date. After it, an installed Bitdefender product keeps running but no longer receives vendor support, which on an operating system that itself stopped getting security fixes years ago is a thin line to stand on.
