On pure detection, Kaspersky still ranks with Bitdefender at the top of AV-Comparatives’ 2026 charts. But software is more than an engine. The US government banned the sale and updating of Kaspersky products in September 2024 over national security concerns, and US customers no longer receive virus definition updates, which makes running it there genuinely unsafe. Buyers elsewhere must weigh excellent protection and pricing against the geopolitical risk and their own comfort. Most of our readers are better served by Bitdefender or ESET.
